My bio...
After years of working in manufacturing, including owning a machine shop in Goleta, ten years ago I decided to make a career change into computer technology.
My career in the technology domain has included roles in IT operations, team management, project management and process engineering in various technology driven markets including; software, e-discovery, litigation support, and web marketing.
I studied Computer Networking at UCSB with an emphasis in Unix systems and have a certification in IT Project Management from SDSU.
While I never did apply my Network training in a practical fashion I did work as a Systems Engineer on Unix/Linux systems.
The last number of years I've worked in management and technical project management and was away from the hands-on side of tech.
I'm currently laid-off and hoping to renew & upgrade my technical skills at SBCC.
At DolphinSearch (an E-Discovery ASP providing services in the litigation services field) I was the Manager of Data Center Operations which used MySQL databases in a Linux/Windows environment.
With Digital Mandate (a provider of Discovery Lifecycle Management solutions for the processing, review and production of documentary evidence required by the legal and compliance marketplaces) I was one of the original members on the First Pass Review/Vestigate team, where I led technical and database support.
I'm an avid surfer, basketball player and an enthusiastic wine aficianado.
I hoping to be an active contributor and career networker here.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or suggestions on jobs/career.
Please no offers for MLM in any form.
Regards,
Mike-

Networking Resources
Santa Barbara and the Central Coast
Some do's for networking at professional association events and social gatherings.
1. Create a business card, www.vistaprint.com (only cost is shipping).
2. Go with the goal of enjoying the gathering and the people you meet. Networking is a two-way street. Go with the spirit of giving, not just
receiving, information. Even if you're out of a job, you can still be helpful
to other people. That's why it's so important to ask questions and to
make sure the conversations you have are dialogues, not monologues.
3. If you're looking for additional networking opportunities, volunteer your
time for a worthy cause or charity. You never know who you'll meet when volunteering. Besides, generously sharing your time and talent with those
less fortunate can help put your own situation into better perspective.
To volunteer, visit websites: www.volunteermatch.org
as well as, the non-profit directory at www.fsacares.org, Family Service Agency
The “211 C.R.I.S. Online Directory” web link lists SB County non-profits.

* Look for free “Tech Brew” networking event for all types of professionals.
I prefer to control the discussion topics and approve comments. I'll also monitor the blogs just to keep down the threat of offers to sell Acai chocolate and water purifiers.
If you recognize a need for a discussion topic, send it my way and maybe it'll pass my rigorous approval process. Thank you for getting this community humming again!

What is ACAI anyway? They even have it at Costco.
The MLM thing is really surging right now. Are they Zombies?
